PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Elks will honor local veterans with an appreciation dinner on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at 5 p.m. at the lodge, located at 508 Main St.

“As long as there are veterans, the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge 1954, will never forget them,” said Exalted Ruler Marion Donahue. “Honoring that principle and in order to say ‘Thank you for your service,’ the Presque Isle Elks will once again host a free Saturday night supper for all military veterans, current military service personnel and their spouses.”

November is National Veterans Remembrance Month for all Elks, Donahue continued, and lodges throughout the country will hold special events to celebrate veterans.

On Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m., lodge members will serve a traditional Aroostook County meal, to include chicken stew, ployes, beef stew, homemade baked beans, hot rolls, corn chowder, corn muffins, seafood chowder, chili, fresh biscuits, homemade macaroni, grilled steaks, American chop suey, a variety of desserts, coffee, tea and soft drinks.

While there is no charge for any military veteran, serviceman or their spouses, there will be a nominal charge of $5 per person for anyone without military service who wishes to join in expressing their gratitude to veterans in attendance.

There will be live musical entertainment throughout the evening, along with door prizes for all veterans and current military service personnel.

“The Presque Isle Elks endeavor to express their gratitude to our military veterans in a number of ways in addition to hosting the free Saturday night supper. This includes a free furniture bank for previously homeless veterans who have been assisted in finding a home,” said Donahue.

“During this Veterans Day weekend, we all should say ‘Thank you’ to the men and women who have served this nation through their military service,” she added. “During the month of November, Elks will recognize the service of all U.S. military veterans.”

Those who need transportation to the dinner may call the Presque Isle Lodge at 764-0985 to make arrangements.
