The Maine State Police is searching for a tractor-trailer driver who allegedly caused extensive damage while rounding a corner Friday morning on Route 1 at the Hodgdon and Cary Plantation town line, south of Houlton.

A witness reported to police that just after 7 a.m. Friday, a northbound tractor-trailer towing an empty trailer designed to haul logs drove around a corner at the town line, skidded off the road and seemed to snag utility lines, causing four utility poles to break, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller.

The trailer truck, described as a dark-colored single cab, or “day cab,” left the scene and has not been located. Police say the trailer may have been damaged in the incident.

Police ask anyone with information about the tractor-trailer or driver to call 532-5400.
