Presque Isle High School choral singers hit the right notes

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A number of singers in the Presque Isle High School choral program have been selected to participate in upcoming All-Aroostook and All-State festivals.

The All-Aroostook Vocal Festival will be held at Houlton High School Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2. Both middle and high school choruses will perform, and a final concert will take place at 2 p.m. that Saturday.

PIHS All-Aroostook Chorus participants will include Josh Baldwin, Vivian Ballerstein, Eric Benson, Jaidyn Blake, Miranda Bragan, Sabrina Carr, Meg Casavant, Khalil Commodore, Sydney Eaton, Rachel Ellis, Allison Fullen, Wyatt Fullen, Preston Gibson, John Guimond, Sadie Kinney, Tyler Levesque, Tom Peterson, Austin Pictou, Anna Robinson, Jordan Scott, Kylie Scott, Erik Smith, Alaina Sperrey, Sabrina Sperrey, Belle Thibault, Yessenia Vilar, Everett Zuras and Holden Zuras.

David Hosea, a senior, recently auditioned and was accepted to participate in the Maine Jazz All-State Festival, to be held at South Portland High School Jan. 11-13.

Auditions were held Oct. 13 at the University of Maine at Augusta, when students from throughout the state auditioned for places in the Honors Band, Jazz Band, Combo, Treble Choir and Jazz Choir.

Hosea will sing tenor in the Jazz Choir, which includes six vocalists on each part for a total of 24. Of the 47 tenors and bases auditioning, Hosea received the second highest score. Dan Jackman of Hall-Dale received the highest score.

The PIHS singers are led by choral director Jerry Levasseur.
