PI squads head south for exhibitions

Tryouts began only Monday but Presque Isle’s basketball and hockey teams have been established and already are set to play exhibition games this weekend.

The Wildcat basketball teams will travel to the Portland area for three games each. The PI girls and boys play at North Yarmouth Academy Friday for games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The following day, the boys and girls take on Yarmouth High School. The boys game begins at 9:30 a.m. in Yarmouth and the girls play at 11:30 a.m. in Freeport. At 1 p.m., the girls square off against Freeport High School, followed by the boys matchup at 2:30 p.m.

The Wildcat hoop squads also will host three games each Dec. 1 and 2, with teams from Windham, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln and Brewer making the trip north.

The PI basketball teams begin regular season play Dec. 9 with games against Washington Academy in East Machias. The girls tip off at 1:30 p.m. and the boys at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Wildcat hockey team continues its tradition by making the trek to Bangor for the annual John Bapst Preseason Tournament at Sawyer Arena in Bangor.

The team plays three games on the day. PI plays Brewer at 9:50 a.m., the host Crusaders at 3:40 p.m. and Old Town/Orono at 7:10 p.m.

The Wildcats host Camden Hills Dec. 8 at 6:45 p.m. in their regular season opener.
