Local Berniecrats (Maine), a division of Bernie Sanders’ “Our Revolution” movement representing all of Maine, has officially endorsed Sean Faircloth for governor in this year’s election.

Faircloth, a progressive Democrat, is a former Mayor of Bangor and a five-term state legislator in both the Senate and the House, where he served as Majority Whip. Faircloth is a clean elections candidate, and, for Maine’s Local Berniecrats, was the hands-down choice for the group’s endorsement. “We strongly favor Faircloth and will be organizing to get him $5 Clean Elections contributions,” wrote Kristen D’Orsay Smith, the group’s administrator, echoing similar comments from several members. “Sean has bold ideas and great proposals and when you read Sean’s record on his website you see he has the ability to mobilize support for his proposals and make them reality.”

The group vetted candidates based on a number of criteria, including their responses to several interview questions. In the end, members were unanimous in their decision to endorse Faircloth.

Sean Faircloth has been honored multiple times for his work in the state legislature, including Legislator of the Year Awards from Maine People’s Alliance, Maine Chapters of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Psychological Association, the National Association of Social Workers. As well, he has earned 100% approval from the Maine Women’s Lobby ten years in a row for his progressive results.

In expressing thanks to Local Berniecrats of Maine, Faircloth noted, “This is a pivotal endorsement, and hugely important to our clean elections campaign. We’re very closely aligned with Bernie Sanders’ Our Revolution issues, and hope to enact the kind of change the focuses on real results for the people of Maine.”
