GORHAM, Maine – Small business owner and former Maine State Sen. Jim Boyle of Gorham is ending his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor.
“I want to thank all of the people who have supported my campaign, who have volunteered and contributed, and who are committed to making Maine a better place,” Boyle said. “This is a difficult decision, but I believe that it’s the right thing to do.”
Boyle launched his campaign in July determined to hold the wealthy special interests accountable.
“I decided to run for governor because I was fed up with a system that favored the wealthy and the special interests above working families,” Boyle said. “Lobbyists were able to take taxpayer dollars meant to create jobs in East Millinocket and pocket the cash instead. They left the community high and dry. That’s outrageous, and I wanted to be in a position to stop it from happening again.”
Boyle also focused his campaign on advocating for the development of renewable energy and the urgency of fighting climate change.
“I ran a successful small business based on the idea that we don’t have to choose between protecting the environment and creating jobs,” Boyle said. “We can – we must – do both. Climate change threatens our state, our country and the world. We can’t wait any longer for policies that move us away from fossil fuels and toward a more sustainable future.”
