Tuesday will be a relatively quiet day of spring sports as baseball and softball fields for many schools remain unplayable.

Two games will be played, however, as Ashland softball makes the trip to Stacyville to take on Katahdin at 3:30 p.m., while Washburn baseball travels to Hodgdon for a 4 p.m. contest.

Fort Fairfield at Southern Aroostook baseball and softball; and Fort Kent baseball and softball at Central Aroostook have all been postponed.

The Houlton boys and girls tennis teams also travel to Caribou to take on the Vikings at 4 p.m. in a match originally scheduled to be played at Houlton Monday.

In the only game involving local squads played Monday, Katahdin baseball rallied to beat Greater Houlton Christian Academy 6-5 Monday afternoon. The Cougars home field was not suitable for play, so the contest was held on Lee Academy’s field.

Katahdin sophomore Caleb Giles came through with base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Cougars the walkoff win.

The Cougar pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts. Bradley Hotham got his first varsity win pitching in relief. Hotham tossed 1 ⅔ innings allowing no hits and one walk, with three strikeouts. Cooper Drew pitched the first three innings, yielding two runs on five hits and four walks, with four strikeouts. Brody Guiggey tossed 2 ⅓ innings of middle relief, scattering three unearned runs on two hits and four walks, with five strikeouts.

Blake Howes and Drew both had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cougars. Caleb Giles, John McNally and Chase Tapley each had one hit. Rig Otero scored two runs.

For GHCA, in their first varsity season of baseball in several years, Austin Winslow rapped three hits and scored two runs, while Will Austin had two hits and two RBIs. Brock Thompson and Jeremy Stone each had one hit.

Kyle Carver tossed 4 ⅓ strong innings for the Eagles, scattering two runs on three hits and four walks, with six strikeouts. Winslow (3 runs, 3 hits, strikeout) and Austin (1 run, 1 hit) pitched in relief.
