HOULTON, Maine — The Caribou Vikings will head south today (Wednesday) to take on Houlton at 4 p.m. in baseball and softball action.

The games were initially postponed on Tuesday due to poor field conditions. However Tuesday’s weather brought temperatures reaching 70 degrees, along with a steady breeze, which allowed for Houlton’s field conditions to improve tremendously. The fields improved so much that the district was prompted to put the games back on the schedule.

In other action, East Grand’s baseball and softball squads travel to Baileyville to take on Woodland at 4 p.m. In tennis, the Houlton boys and girls are slated to head north to take on Presque Isle starting at 3:30 p.m.

Only two games were played in the region Tuesday, as Hodgdon hosted Washburn in baseball and Katahdin hosted Ashland in softball in the first games to be played in The County this spring.

Hodgdon 20, Washburn 1 — At Hodgdon, the Hawks jumped to an early 11-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back en route to the victory. The game was stopped after 4 ½ innings via the mercy rule.

For Hodgdon, Josh Foster had four RBIs and two runs scored, while Elijah Matheson had three singles, an RBI, and scored three runs.

Washburn was led by Carver Pendexter, who reached base safely twice and scored the Beavers only run.

Ashland 17, Katahdin 9 — At Stacyville, the visiting Hornets picked up the win. Individual results were not reported.
