Special masses, services planned for Memorial Day

HOULTON, Maine — Many Masses and prayer services are planned for churches and cemeteries around Maine on Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28). Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m. in the mausoleum chapel at St. Peter’s Cemetery on 217 Switzerland Road in Lewiston.

Locally, special services will be held in both Houlton and Island Falls. The St. Mary of the Visitation Parish will hold a prayer service at the old cemetery behind St. Mary of the Visitation Church, located on 112 Military Street in Houlton, following the 6 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 26.

St. Mary of the Visitation Parish will hold a Memorial Day Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on County Road on Monday, May 28, at 9 a.m.

Memorial Day prayers will also be offered at the cemetery, located on Belvedere Road, on Sunday, May 27, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Agnes Church in Island Falls.
