Caribou-Presque Isle Co-ed Softball League begins

Ten teams are competing in this year’s Caribou-Presque Isle Co-ed Softball League, which got underway May 30.

Making up this year’s league are: Aroostook Band of Micmacs, Cameron Construction, Just Send It, Kofstad Agency, McCain’s, Maine Mutual Group, National Guard, Northern Business Products, Progressive Realty and Swedes, who are the defending champions.

Games, which are seven innings in length, are played in Caribou (Paul Soucie Memorial Field on Sincock Street), New Sweden (on U.S. Route 161 behind Northstar Variety) and Presque Isle (Bishop’s Island Field on Chapman Street) Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. An equal number of males and females must be on the field for each team.

Scores of games played through June 13 are as follows: MMG 12, Kofstad Agency 6; ABOM 8, MMG 7; Cameron Construction 12, Kofstad Agency 1; MMG 15, Just Send It 7; ABOM 7, Just Send It 5; Swedes 22, Progressive Realty 13; Swedes by forfeit over McCain’s; Cameron Construction 11, NBP 7; National Guard 18, ABOM 3; Kofstad Agency 3, ABOM 1; Cameron Construction 13, ABOM 2; Just Send It 14, MMG 7; NBP 6, Swedes 4; National Guard 24, McCain’s 3; Progressive Realty 19, McCain’s 5; Cameron Construction 11, Swedes 10; NBP 20, Progressive Realty 10.

The standings as of June 13 are as follows: Cameron Construction (4-0), National Guard (2-0), NBP (2-1), Kofstad Agency (3-2), ABOM (3-3), Swedes (2-2), MMG (2-2), Progressive Realty (1-2), Just Send It (1-4) and McCain’s (0-4).

Monday, June 25: MMG vs. NBP, 6 p.m. in Presque Isle; National Guard vs. Cameron Construction, 7 p.m. in Presque Isle; Progressive Realty vs. National Guard, 8 p.m. in Presque Isle; Just Send It vs. McCain’s, 6 p.m. in Caribou; McCain’s vs. ABOM, 7 p.m. in Caribou; and Kofstad Agency vs. Swedes, 6:30 p.m. in New Sweden.

Wednesday, June 27: Kofstad Agency vs. National Guard, 6 p.m. in Presque Isle; Swedes vs. ABOM, 7 p.m. in Presque Isle; MMG vs. Progressive Realty, 8 p.m. in Presque Isle; NBP vs. Just Send It, 7 p.m. in Caribou.

Teams can still register for the state tournament, which will be held July 27-29 in Waterville. The playoffs for the local league get underway July 30.
