The annual Cloukey’s Charity Challenge will be held Saturday, July 14, at Limestone Country Club and Sunday, July 15, at Long Lake Country Club, with all proceeds benefiting Aroostook Special Olympics.
“Both courses are donated, so all the money goes to Special Olympics,” said Rene Cloukey, who began the fundraiser 30 years ago.
Two nine-hole scrambles will be held in Limestone on the first day and two more the following day in St. David. Prizes are awarded after each nine holes.
“You can put together your own four-person team or, if you don’t have a foursome, we can put you in one,” Cloukey said.
The cost is $20 for each nine-hole tourney and those who pay to play in the first three events can play in the fourth for free. Those under 18 years old can play for half price.
The shotgun starts begin at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day. Cloukey said several WAGM-TV personalities will be in attendance throughout the weekend.
More than $90,000 has been raised for Aroostook Special Olympics during the history of the event, according to Cloukey.
“This tournament is set up for golfers of any skill level,” he said. “It is a great chance for newer golfers to have a fun day on the course and at the same time help a good cause.”
