ALLEN E. WHITNEY, ISLAND FALLS – Our dad, Allen E. Whitney, 84, of Island Falls, passed from this life to his heavenly life July 15, 2018, with his loving family at his side. Dad was born July 24, 1933, in Houlton, the son of Vinal ‘Mike’ Whitney and beloved son of Dorothy (Main) and Norman Grant Sr.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany and France. He was a very hard-working woodsman and worked every day of his life. Even in his dementia, he worked daily to provide for his families needs. He loved his family with all his heart.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Gloria (Bartlett) Noyes of Patten; three daughters, Dottie (Terry) Tucker of Benedicta, Cathy (Van) Willigar of Mt. Chase and Virgie Whitney of No. Port, Fla.; beloved grandchildren, Oden (Elizabeth) Willigar and Annalisa (Shawn) Harrington; and great-grandchildren, Darius, Melora and Lily Willigar and Tristin Harrington; two sisters, Jeanette Farwell and Harriette White; and one brother, Vinal (Buddy) Whitney; several nieces nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved sister, Elaine Hartin; a brother, Harry (Sparky) Whitney; mother-in-law, Virgie Bartlett; and a dear nephew, Johnny Hartin.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Gardiner Health Care Facility and Houlton Regional Hospital who cared for Dad like he was family. A graveside funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, July 19th at the Island Falls Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Straubel Officiating. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home.
