AUBURN, Maine — Terry Hayes, Maine State Treasurer and independent candidate for Governor announces widespread support for her candidacy after submitting her July finance report. More Maine voters have shown support for Hayes’ bid to become Maine’s next Governor than any other Maine Clean Elections candidate in the history of the program.
Hayes reported collecting Clean Elections contributions from over 5,700 Maine voters over a period of 9 months.
“I am honored to have the support of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents across Maine,” said Hayes, Maine’s only Independent, Clean Elections candidate for Governor. “The Maine people are tired of partisan bickering and broken promises. We want a Governor who is only beholden to the people, and not to party leaders, special interests, or wealthy donors.”
The Hayes for Maine campaign has qualified for an initial $800,000 plus an additional 2 tiers of $175,000 each, for a total of one million, one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. To date, the campaign has received $891,000. Hayes continues to urge the legislature to pass the errors and omissions bill and restore clean elections funding for the 2018 campaign cycle. Due to a typo, which would ordinarily be fixed by lawmakers in a routine end-of-session housekeeping bill, some have chosen to withhold agreed upon money for this program.
“I’m running for Governor to get results for the people who live here, work here, raise their families here, and pay taxes here,” added Hayes. “Government has been working for partisan and special interests, but not for the Maine people. That all changes the moment that I am sworn in as Maine’s next Governor. I am the only candidate in the race who will always put people over partisanship and end the gridlock.”
