Caribou rules at tennis singles event

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Twenty two young tennis players from Caribou and Presque Isle competed in the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association singles tournament held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Tuesday, July 24. 

In the end, Caribou players captured victories in all five divisions.

Benjamin Bouchard of Caribou pulled off an 8-4 victory over teammate Brady Barnes to take the 9-10 boys’ division. Abraham Bouchard, also of Caribou, defeated teammate Landyn Waldemarson, 8-2, to captured the 11-12 age group, while Logan Cheplic of Caribou defeated Ruben Hunter of Caribou in the finals of the 13-15 category by a score of 8-5.

On the girls’ side, Isabella Sleeper of Caribou registered an 8-1 triumph over Taylor Bourne of Presque Isle in the 11-12 division. Sage Dubay of Caribou stopped Julia Kurtz of Presque Isle in the 13-15 championship match by a score of 8-2.

There were no competitors in the 9-10 girls’ division.

The NMCRA doubles tournament will be played in Caribou on July 31.
