From the Bunkers (week of August 8, 2018)
HOULTON, Maine — We have had a wonderful week for golf at the Houlton Community Golf Course, although some might think it was much too warm. The course is looking great and the drenching rain we got on Saturday has left the greens soft and receptive. There have been many visitors to the course, with lots of positive comments.you should come out and play some golf.
This Saturday will be the County Open at Houlton golf club supporting the Houlton Regional Hospital Foundation. It will be 18 holes of stroke play, featuring golfers from around the County and from afar. Sunday, VaJoWa golf course will host the popular 18 hole four player scramble. Both courses have a few openings left to play so give the clubhouses a call and get your name on the list. After all it is for good cause and a lot of fun.
On Sunday Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. we will hold our second Couples Scramble. Nine holes with Texas Scramble format. This event is open to all players no matter their experience. We found it to be a lot of fun and got everyone involved in the scoring for each team.
Our Club Championship will be he on the weekend of Aug. 25 and 26. This will be a handicap tournament, so we would love to see all members play. The Babe Caron Memorial Tournament will be held over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1 and 2. This is a very popular tourney and will be limited to 30 two-person teams to expedite play. Get your team in soon. Call the proshop at 532-2662 to sign up or for more info on any of these events.
The Lakeside Restaurant is still serving excellent meals five days a week. We’re only a few minutes out of town if you want a quiet lunch with business associates. Call Nancy at 694-9494 to see if she can fit you in. Restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday.
Golf has been said to be a good walk in the park, so why not come out and enjoy the fresh air and play nine if your time is short or play 18 with a few friends. We’ll see you on the course.
