The Wednesday Evening Fiddlers will return to Mapleton in August. The Haystack Historical Society will host the fiddlers at the Mapleton Lions Hall on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m.
At last year’s Fiddlers evening, the hall was filled to near overflow capacity by spectators, which led the Historical Society and the Mapleton Lions Club to make arrangements for this year’s program.
Frequently the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers consist of 20 or more musicians who meet regularly on Wednesday evenings and enjoy playing music together.
Garold Hanscom, general manager of the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers, said of the group, “They are pleased to be able to help organizations like the Haystack Historical Society and the Mapleton Lions Club by putting on musical shows that are enjoyed by all who attend.”
To help the organizations, donations will be accepted and split between the Haystack Historical Museum and the Mapleton Lions Club. The historical society appreciates the Mapleton Lions Club’s willingness to waive the hall rental fee in lieu of splitting the donations received.
At the performance, there will be light homemade cookies and brownies and beverage refreshments for sale to benefit the museum.
Meet the Pilots
On Saturday morning, Aug. 25, the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club will host a pancake breakfast at their clubhouse in Mapleton as part of the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival.
Members of the public will have the opportunity at the annual breakfast to meet the pilots taking part in this year’s festival.
This is a chance for everyone to ask questions about the pilots’ flying experiences and how their hot air balloons work. Breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. and is open to the public. The cost is $8 per person.
Rec ends this week
The summer recreation programs end this week in Mapleton. The annual recreation cookout will be held on Aug. 11 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Mapleton Elementary School.
The championship Little League game will be played earlier in the afternoon and other awards and recognitions will be presented. The Mapleton Lions Club will be grilling hot dogs for the attendees.
Beat the Heat
The hot weather continues. By now everyone has felt the heat of summer. Just in case you would like to beat the heat, do remember the Mapleton Pool is open. Free swim is Monday through Friday, from 2 to 6:45 p.m. It is also open on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4:45 p.m.
Everyone is invited to enjoy the summer pool experience and beat the heat.
