Northern Maine Rural Living Day slated for Sept. 8

HOULTON, Maine — The fourth annual Northern Maine Rural Living Day is slated Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Houlton Civic Center and Fairgrounds, 94 Randall Avenue, Houlton.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension, with support from Farm Credit East, sponsors the event.

Workshop topics include managing organic and conventional apple trees, growing cranberries, home brewing, plantings for native bees and invasive forest pests including the emerald ash borer. Demonstrations by rural crafters, livestock displays and youth activities are scheduled throughout the day.

The fee is $10 per person ($15 at event), $20 per family; a lunch using local foods will be available for $10. Preregistration is recommended; register online.
