Sherman Old Home Days returns this weekend

SHERMAN, Maine — One of the final town celebrations of the year takes place this weekend as Sherman gears up for its annual Old Home Days event.

The following is a schedule of events taking place Friday, Aug. 31 to Monday, Sept. 3.

 

Friday, Aug. 31

10 a.m. — Book Sale by Friends of the Library.

7 p.m. — “Sherman’s Got Talent” variety show at the Sherman Gym.

Saturday, Sept. 1

9 a.m. — Registration for Cancer Walk at Bandstand, walk begins at 9:30 a.m.

10 a.m. — Bandstand opens.

10 a.m. — Book Sale by Friends of the Library.

11 a.m. — Four-wheeler ride starts at Masonic Hall.

11 a.m. — Auction starts in the park.

5 p.m. — Sherman High Alumni Banquet. Sherman Gym social hour 4-5 p.m. Town events near the town office.

6-8:30 p.m. — Public dance for all ages with DJ.

Fireworks at dark.

 

Sunday, Sept. 2

7:30-9:30 a.m. — Breakfast at Masonic Hall.

8 a.m. — Drop off art for Art Show at Library.

9 a.m. — Howard Guiggey Memorial Horseshoe Tourney at VFW.

9 a.m. — Co-ed Softball Tourney at Sherman Gym.

9:30 a.m. — Church services.

10 a.m. — Book Sale by Friends of the Library.

Noon — Bandstand opens.

Noon — Lobster dinner.

Noon – -Music in the Park.

Noon — Hamburger, sausages, pulled pork, sandwiches and french fries

12:30 p.m. — Children’s parade.

1 p.m. — Art Show in the Library.

1 p.m. — Petting Zoo.

1-2 p.m. — Free cotton candy.

5-7 p.m. — Glow Dance for grades 3-5 at Sherman Gym.

7-9 p.m.  — Glow Dance for grades 6-9 at Sherman Gym.

 

Monday, Sept. 3

7:30 a.m. — Pumpkin donuts in the park.

9 a.m. — Co-ed softball tourney continues.

10 a.m. Parade. Theme this year is “Movie Time.” After the parade all booths open and Book Sale by Friends of the Library. Games in the park follow.

10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. — Craft fair at Sherman gym.

11 a.m. — Car Cruisin’ in the Village at Tom’s Garage.

11 a.m. — Quilt Show in the church.

Noon — Music in the park.

2 p.m. — Pet Show in the park.

4 p.m. — Bean supper.

5 p.m. — Grounds ticket drawing with three chances to win. First drawing is $100; second drawing is $75; and third drawing is $50.

5 p.m. — Bicycle and quilt drawings.
