Larry J. Lainey

CONWAY, Maine – Larry J. Lainey, 62, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, after a courageous battle with Primary CNS Lymphoma. Larry was born in St. Agatha, Maine, on April 30, 1956, the son of Harold and Jeanne (Caron) Lainey.
Larry is survived by his mother, Jeanne Lainey of Presque Isle; his wife of 38 years, Elaine Breen Lainey; their children, Peter (Christi) Lainey and Lynda Lainey; and his four grandchildren, Oliviya, Addison, Ayden, and Ethan, all of Conway, South Carolina. He will be missed by his siblings Rena (Scott) Carlin of Mapleton, Dan (Jennifer) Lainey of Yarmouth and extended family in England along with many adored nieces and nephews.
Larry joined the Army after graduating from NMVTI in Presque Isle. His duty took him to Texas, New Mexico, Germany, and eventually South Carolina. He and Elaine enjoyed traveling to Greece, England, Spain, and other areas of Europe. Larry had a successful military career, specializing in radar electronics with the Hawke Missile Defense System, retiring as a WO3 (Warrant Officer) in 1996. After his military career, he worked with radar technology for Scientific Research Corporation, which allowed him to travel to McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
Larry especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He paid extra attention to each one of them. He cherished taking them to the beach, pool, and movies, as well as attending all their concerts and school events. He also delighted in the odd jobs he picked up while caring for his wife.
In addition to his father, Harold Lainey, Larry was predeceased by a sister, Linda Lainey.
Upon Larry’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A military service will be held at a later date, with burial in the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC.
