Houlton golfers notch 19th win of season

HOULTON, Maine — It was a busy week for the Houlton golf team as the Shires improved to 19-3 on the season following three-way matches on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Shires, who compete in the Class C division, won seven of those nine matches and are now 21-3 overall on the year. The only losses on the season are to Class B Mount Desert Island.

“What a week for the Houlton High golf team,” coach Dave Grant said. “One week left and I am very proud of this team. They give it their all every time out.”

Results from Monday’s match at JATO golf course in Lincoln were Houlton 172, MDI 179 and Mattanawcook Academy 194.

Medalist on the day was Kyle Nicholson of MDI with a 38.

At the Barnes Brook Golf Course in West Enfield Friday, team scores were MDI 171, Houlton 174, Carlisle 188, and Penobscot Valley 249.

Results for Houlton were: Harvey 44, Brewer 44, I. Vega 42, Collin Moody 47, McCormack 44, R. Vega 44, and Graham 68.

At the Penobscot Valley Country Club Thursday, team scores were Houlton 165, Orono 183, Dexter 230 and Greenville 241.

Results for Houlton were: W. Harvey 38, Moody 40, McCormack 41, Brewer 46, I. Vega 48, Garrett Harvey 55, R. Vega 56 and Sydney Lorom 61.

Hodgdon fell 7-2 to Ashland in match play Sept. 12. Nathan Tuttle was low medalist with a 44, followed by Elijah Matheson and Bryon Barton both shooting 62. Lucas

Matheson had a 77. Low scorers for Ashland were Tristan Pelletier and Sean Monpetit with both with a 56.

Hodgdon competes Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the regional championship at the Portage Lake Golf Course.
