HOULTON, Maine — The annual Harvest Festival, held Saturday, Sept. 15, drew scores of people to downtown Houlton to celebrate the arrival of fall, even though the first official day of Autumn is not until Sept. 23.

One side of Market Square was closed off to traffic, to allow spectators to mingle freely among the many craft vendors and activities offered. Free pumpkins were available for children to paint, but they went quickly as organizers ran out by 11 a.m.

The tractor train ride also proved to be a popular attraction as area youth formed a long line for the chance to ride one of several miniature vehicles pulled by a full-size tractor.

Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jane Torres said she was “amazed” at how many people came out, considering how many other events were going on in town.
