Houlton and Carlisle golfers ready for championship matches

At the Houlton Community Golf Course Wednesday, the Shires improved to 23-3 on the season in a tri-match with Hermon (17-2) and Carlisle. The Shires shot a low score of 159 to easily beat second-place Hermon 167. Carlisle finished with a 178.

Four golfers — Houlton’s Wyatt Harvey and Isaac Vega and Hermon’s Kent Johnson and Nate Allain —  took home medalist honors with a low score of 38 at the Par-36 course.

Individual results from the match were:

Houlton — Wyatt Harvey 38, Isaac Vega 38, Nick Brewer 41, Duncan McCormack 42, Collin Moody 43, Garrett Harvey 49, Sydney Lorom 51, Rhetta Vega 56, Ryder Graham 61, Kollin Avery 62 and Kye Flewelling 66.

Hermon —  Kent Johnson 38, Nate Allain 38, Ryan Mailloux 45, Logan Scripture 46, Adam Rush 52, Wyatt Hendrix 53, Parker Foley 58, Jacob Lana 57, Faith Coombs 49.

Carlisle —  Gabe Rand 42, Seth Roy 41, Libby Boone 48, Andrew Hewitt 47 Brady Miller 52, Jackson Maynard 51, Matthew Hedrich 54.

Carlisle was back in action Monday with a match at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono against Old Town and Orono. Carlisle’s record fell to 12-12 as Orono posted 183 strokes, Old Town 195 and Carlisle 201.

Orono’s Jason DeSisto was the medalist with a 42.

Carlisle’s individual scores from the match were: Rand 46, Roy 49, Boone 50, Karson Albert 56, Miller 56, Maynard 57 and Ian MacKinnon 59.

The Shires followed suit with another victory on Friday, this time at the Penobscot Valley Country Club in Howland. Team scores were Houlton 165, Orono 183, Dexter 230 and Greenville 241. Individual results were not reported.

The PVC Championships/state qualifiers are set for later this week. The girls’ qualifier is at Barnes Brook in West Enfield on Wednesday, Sept. 26, and the team championship and boys’ individual qualifier is Thursday, Sept. 27, at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln.
