Open house highlights changes to CHS gym

CARIBOU, Maine — A chance to see the new-look Caribou High School gymnasium and select season tickets for basketball and wrestling is coming soon.

School officials have scheduled an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. The public will be able to select specific season ticket seats during the event. The Caribou Boosters also will be displaying and selling Viking apparel.

A number of changes were made to the gymnasium during the past several months, according to Dave Wakana, athletic director and assistant principal at CHS. He said the wood flooring was stripped and refinished and there is a new center logo and court paint scheme. The original 50-year-old bleachers were replaced with new bleachers. Seating arrangements for teams and scoring officials have been reconfigured and the visiting team spectator seating area has been relocated.

Wakana said the gym now features recognition plaques on the wall to honor all 1,000-point career scorers in basketball and 100-win wrestlers.

Access into the school for games will be expanded to include the doors near the main office, according to Wakana, which will offer more convenient access from the large parking lot area in front of the school.
