CARIBOU, Maine — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian killed last week when he was struck while crossing the road as Fernand Belanger, 56, of Caribou.

Two vehicles struck and killed Belanger as he was crossing South Main Street near Big Cheese Pizza just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, according to the Caribou Police Department.

Belanger was first struck by a 2002 Buick Century traveling north and operated by Sharon McGee of Caribou, according to a press release police issued on Nov. 8. The impact knocked him into the southbound lane, where he was struck a second time by a 2018 Toyota Camry driven by Lola McBreairty of Caribou.

Police reported on Nov. 13 that Officer Kegan McPherson continues to investigate and that no further information is being released at this time.

In their earlier release, police reminded individuals to “please use caution while walking after dark, use crosswalks, wear light colored clothing and, as always, be safe.”
