PIHS students plan kids’ craft day

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Members of the Presque Isle High School Class of 2020 and the Wintergreen Arts Center will host a children’s Christmas Craft Day on Nov. 24, Small Business Saturday, during Thanksgiving Weekend.

The goal of this event is to offer safe, creative childcare to parents who wish to shop or dine locally with the peace of mind of knowing their children are having just as much fun as they are.

Shoppers are invited to drop off their children at the Wintergreen Arts Center anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a few fun-filled hours of crafts, games, socialization and mini-portrait sessions.  The cost is $10 per hour per child or $25 per child for the full four hours, which includes a pizza lunch. All proceeds from the day go to the PIHS Class of 2020.

“This is our second year of offering creative childcare on Small Business Saturday,” said Paige McHatten, vice president, PIHS Class of 2020.  “It is a great feeling to give parents the opportunity for their children to have fun while they enjoy some time on their own to shop local and appreciate our area restaurants.”

Wintergreen’s play kitchen, train and sensory tables, standing easels with paint and paper, children’s books and wooden blocks will also be available for the children to play with and enjoy.

“Christmas Craft Day gives our students a chance to not only participate in Small Business Saturday, but to grow their partnership with the Wintergreen Arts Center,” said Melanie Junkins, adviser, PIHS Class of 2020.  “As volunteers for this year’s Wintergreen Express, our students learn the value of giving back by supporting local non-profit organizations.”
