The Loring Job Corps Center recently held its annual community recognition and awards dinner, known as the evening with the North Stars. The dinner allows the center the opportunity to update its many partners and supporters on the performance and success of the center.
Loring Center Director, Kristie Moir, briefed the attendees of Loring’s growth over the past year and the formal announcement of Loring’s two new advanced training opportunities in Heavy Truck Driving and Computer technologies.
“Both programs will open even more doors for our students and allow Loring to also enroll students from other Job Corps” Moir said.
Community Impact awards were given to center partners the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou and Caldwell’s Auto in Fort Fairfield. The Maine Veterans Home was selected due to their unsurpassed dedication and support to the Loring clinical training site needs of the Certified Nurses Aid program as well as real world work experience for the students. Caldwell’s Auto was selected for their commitment of training our automotive trade students who participated in a six week work-based learning program. Their support for the students resulted in many of the students being accepted for advanced automotive training in Utah.
In addition this year’s ceremony included a veterans day salute to the many veterans who work on the center and recognition of two of our veterans who have gone above and beyond in the support of the center and the students. The two veterans received an impact award and a flag flown over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The center’s North Star award was presented to the Limestone Police Department for the training and support of the center in its ongoing transition to the ALICE training model. The police department has been a vital component to the development of the active shooter operations procedures and their training of our staff and students will help save lives in the event of an actual emergency.
