Michaud and Greaves gain soccer recognition

Soccer season may have ended over a month ago, but the accolades keep coming for the Presque Isle soccer teams.

Wildcat senior Madison Michaud was one of only 11 players named to the Maine Sunday Telegram All-State girls’ soccer team, while Joe Greaves, coach of the PI boys, was named the boys’ Coach of the Year by the Portland-based weekend newspaper.

Michaud, who was recently chosen as an All-American and is a two-time All-Region honoree by the Maine Soccer Coaches Association, broke her own school scoring record this past season with 36 goals.

Her career total of 122 places her fifth on the state’s all-time list. Michaud, who also was named Penobscot Valley Conference Class B Player of the Year and received the Butch Shaw Award as Aroostook County’s top player in Class B, led the Wildcats to consecutive Class B North titles.

Greaves, who recently completed his eighth season at his alma mater, led the Wildcats to a historic season capped by a 3-2 double-overtime victory in the Class B state championship game against Freeport. It marked the first time in a quarter-century that a Northern or Eastern Maine team won the Class B state title.

Presque Isle finished with a 15-1-2 record, with the lone loss coming at Caribou late in the season. During his career as the coach, the Wildcats have posted a 90-28-12 record.
