Black Hawks tally first victory

HOULTON, Maine — Success arrived for the Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin varsity hockey team with Saturday’s 2-1 overtime victory over Maranacook. 

The Black Hawks (1-5-1) rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the second period to tie the game as Jason Collett scored his fourth goal of the season in the third period. Neither squad was able to produce the game winner during regulation, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra period, Alex Dunn wasted little time breaking the stalemate as he scored the winning goal 1:56 into the period. It was his first varsity goal on the year.

Coleman Watson gave Maranacook a 1-0 lead early into the second period.

Elijah Matheson made six saves on seven shots in goal for the Black Hawks. Will Hays made 49 saves on 51 shots for Maranacook.
