The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Jan. 7 in the Parish Center.  There were 11 members present, Deacon Al Burleigh and guest, Janice Labelle.

After opening prayer, salute to the flag and cross and hymn, Deacon Al offered a blessing.  Members brought a box lunch and a box social was enjoyed by all with Mary Grant in charge of the swap.  After eating, each person tried to guess who had prepared the boxes of food.

President Sue Hardy called the meeting to order.  Recording Secretary Kathy Klein read the minutes from the December 2018 meeting.  Treasurer Jane Mitchell gave the treasurer’s report. Corresponding Secretary Alta Reardon read several thank-you notes from donations we had made.  Historian Jane Stile presented photos of the HCCW 2018 year in review.

Our wreath raffle was very successful again this year.  Deacon Ron Ouellette was the winner of the wreath. All proceeds go to the seminarian fund.

President Sue Hardy said the quarterly state meeting of MDCCW will be held in Hallowell on Jan. 26.

We discussed the Valentine bag project, which will be done at our next meeting.  All members are reminded to bring goodies to fill Valentine bags for shut ins.

The door prize was won by Mary Grant. Birthdays and anniversaries were noted for January. Prayer requests were gathered and we recited five Hail Mary’s led by Bonnie Reynolds.

Our next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 in the Parish Center.  All Catholic ladies are invited.
