Firearm theft

On July 19, 2018, new residents from another state arrived at their recently purchased home on the West Road in New Sweden. Prior to leaving their home state they had shipped several separate packages via a national shipping company.

These packages were supposed to have arrived on the day of their arrival, but when the new homeowners arrived at their West Road residence, they discovered that the packages were delivered prior to their arrival and all but one had been stolen. Inside these packages were several typical household items, but intermingled inside these packages there were also multiple firearms.

Maine State Police Trooper Adam Stoutamyer responded and began an investigation.

On Aug. 6, 2018, a report was made to the Maine Forest Service reporting an illegal trash dumping site on a separate road in the New Sweden area, not far from the victims’ residence. In this trash were shipping packages with the victim’s name and New Sweden address on them. Inside one of these packages, undiscovered by the perpetrator, was one of the stolen firearms.

Police recovered evidence at the scene for processing. The investigation into the stolen firearms is continuing.

Anyone with information in regard to this theft can contact Tr. Stoutamyer at the Maine State Police Barracks in Houlton at (207) 532-5400 or 1 (800) 924-2261, or call Aroostook County Crime Stoppers at (800) 638-8477.
