The Wildcat hockey team improved to 8-2 on the season and holds the No. 4 position in the Heal Point standings for the Class B North division, following Saturday’s 10-1 home victory over Messalonskee.

Presque Isle scored three times in the first period and then put the game away by tallying five goals in the final 10 minutes of the second period.

The Wildcats held a 42-15 advantage in shots on goal. Connor DeMerchant scored three goals, Gage LeTourneau and Jake Stevens each had two, and Jaren Winger, Colby Carlisle and Torey Levesque netted one apiece for PI. Carlisle led the way in assists with four, while Jonah Roy, Thomas Patenaude, Caleb Levesque, Stevens, LeTourneau and Winger notched one each.

Brandon Poitras played the entire game in goal for Presque Isle, recording 14 saves.

“We did a reasonably good job protecting our goaltending tonight,” said PI coach Carl Flynn, “We moved the puck around very well and we were able to play the entire bench.”

The teams will meet again Saturday at Colby College in Waterville. Start time is 7:30 p.m. Presque Isle’s scheduled game on Monday, Jan. 21, against the Kennebec Riverhawks in Waterville was called off. A makeup date has not been announced.
