TOPS (week of January 30, 2019)

The TOPS meeting was held Jan. 18 at the Aldergate Building, Kelleran Street, Houlton. There were nine TOPS and four KOPS members present.

The losers of the week were Pam Richardson, Millie Gagnon and Diane Folsom. Good job, ladies. Diane Folsom won the skinny dish and Pam Richardson won the 50/50. Jean Merritt won the health basket.

We started a new contest to run for six weeks. It should be fun. We will have to work at it, though, eight projects each week.

Denise Clark presented a program from our TOPS magazine entitled “How Thyroid Conditions Can Affect Body Weight.” Your thyroid plays an important role in metabolism, and how quickly we can burn calories. Individuals with an underactive thyroid gland burn calories at a slower rate. But remember, the thyroid is not the only factor for weight gain. So if you are gaining weight or losing too much weight, have a doctor check your thyroid. It is manageable.

This is another part of a healthier lifestyle, taking care of ourselves, but sometimes we get too busy with family, work and we forget the “me time.” Thank you, Denise.

We welcome new members at any time. The first meeting is free. so come check us out. For more information call Pam Richardson, 538-8750.
