HOWLAND, Maine — The playoff road came to an end for the Hodgdon girls basketball team Tuesday evening as the No. 13 Hawks fell 49-30 to No. 4 Penobscot Valley (15-4).

Lexi Ireland, a 1,000-point scorer for PVHS, led the Howlers with 26 points,  while Laney Harding added 12 (all coming from behind the 3-point arc).

Lauren McGillicuddy paced the Hawks with nine points, while Kora Lambert added eight.

“It was an eight point game at the end of three quarters, 34-26, and we cut it to six points at one point in the fourth,” Hodgdon coach Wendell Harvey said. “But they (PVHS) went on a run and we never got any closer.”

The Hawks end their season with a 10-9 overall record, which is something coach Harvey said was reason to be proud of.

“I was very pleased with how the girls responded this season,” he said. “They worked extremely hard and I am very proud of their effort and accomplishments. The girls have a never quit attitude and that in my opinion is why we were very successful this season.”
