FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The 22nd annual Memorial Day Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, May 25, at the Aroostook Valley Country Club.
This year’s tournament will be held in memory of Glennys Heath, Paul Lamoreau, Dr. A. D. Pendleton, Larry Grass, and August Harvey, who all died this past year.
Featuring a four-person scramble format, the tournament begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start. Registration takes place from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and the field is limited to the first 40 teams. The entry fee is $65 per person and includes a steak and chicken barbecue after the event, as well as many auction items.
Golfers can compete in the following divisions: men, women and mixed division (2 men/2 women).
More than $5,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top 10 net teams and top four gross teams. Golfers will also have a chance to win a 2019 Honda Civic, supplied by Griffeth Honda of Presque Isle, if anyone is lucky enough to card a hole-in-one on No. 15. In addition, golfers will have a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize provided by the Par and Grille in Caribou for a hole-in-one on No. 4.
“In the 21-year history of the event, two cars have been won, so don’t miss your chance to win this year,” said Tony Levesque, one of the event organizers.
Closest to the pin, longest drive and other contests will also be held.
The proceeds of this tournament will go to the Fort Fairfield Athletic Boosters Club in their continued support of athletics at Fort Fairfield Middle/High School.
“This tournament has grown tremendously since our first year,” said Booster Club President Larry Gardner. “The field fills up quickly because it is such a great event. All of our sponsors really do a great job for us in donating money and prizes, which help make this such a popular event.”
