The Purple Hat ladies met at Grammy’s for their April get-together on Tuesday, April 16.

Cindy Gray recognized those with April birthdays. Wannetta Townsend and Cindy Gray won the monthly drawing. Bernice Campbell was recognized for having 840 volunteer hours with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Menus for several upcoming meetings were selected.  Marie Gillotti read the Easter Parade Traditions dating back to the mid-1800s, including, “In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it, you’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.”

Cindy Gray told us about Easter candy, including the jelly bean, dating all the way back to a biblical-era concoction called a Turkish Delight. Over 16 billion jelly beans are made in the U.S. each year for Easter. Top selling non-chocolate Easter candy has been the marshmallow Peep for the past decade.

The Easter Basket mad lib was created by everyone and read to us by Betty Wyman.

Attending were: Wannetta Townsend, Marie Gillotti, Cindy Gray, Bernice Campbell, Betty Wyman, Jackie Colella, Marsha Reed and Charlotte Marley.
