From the Bunkers – Week of June 17, 2019

It’s been a wonderful week for golf. Our crew has the fairways and roughs looking good. The greens are filling in and the word on the street is that our greens are some of the best in the County and beyond. The warmer weather is definitely helping. It will only get better from here.

The Men’s Twilight League began Monday, June 17, with several teams getting off to a hot start. The Ladies Association matches had to be cancelled on Tuesday, June 18, due to the rain. They played again Tuesday, June 25.

Coming up on July 6 will be the four person nine hole scramble to benefit the Houlton High School Alumni Association. Sign up your team on the events wall in the lounge, or call the clubhouse for more info.

Coming in early August will be the annual County Open. Eighteen-hole stroke play on Saturday at Houlton, and 18-hole four person scramble at VaJoWa in Island Falls on Sunday. More information to be found here as we get closer.

We are still offering our 50 percent off membership deals. If you were not a member for the 2017 or 2018 season, you are eligible for the discount. All membership perks apply, including reciprocal playing privileges at many Maine courses, through the North Atlantic Golf Course Association.

Junior Golf will begin on Monday, June 24. The cost is $45 for all sessions and is open for all students 6 to 14. Call the clubhouse to have your young golfers added to the classes. Golf is a sport that when learned early will be played throughout your lifetime.

If you are a little short on time, I would suggest you come out and play a quick nine. Nine hole rounds can be entered in the GHIN system and will be combined with other nine hole rounds for your handicap index.

As you come off the ninth green, I will call your attention to the Memorial Garden between the ninth and eighteenth greens. The ladies have done a beautiful job revitalizing the garden from the long winter. Stop by and take a look.

I will just throw this in. I have seen an awful lot over ball marks left in the greens as we mow the greens in the morning. I ask you to please repair your marks. Our greens will appreciate the effort. It’s going to be a great week to play some golf. Temps in the seventies and no precipitation on the horizon. I hope to see you at the course enjoying a good round.

The Lakeside Restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.  On Sunday, they are open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for early dinner. Call Nancy at 694-9494 for reservations or to ask about special occasions.
