ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The course is getting into mid-season condition. The greens are nearing 100 percent filled in from the long hard winter and the fairways were fertilized last week. The tees have new grass, from recent overseeding, making them the best they have ever been.

Golfers from near and far are saying VaJoWa is in the best shape of any course they have played this year.  Get together with your buddies and enjoy a round.

On July 4th we will be having our annual Flag Tournament.  It is 18 holes. Add 72 to your handicap and plant your flag in the ground where your ball lays. This is always a fun event. The entry fee is $10, which will be paid out in cash prizes to winners.  An optional closest to the pin on the par 3’s is available.

Results from Sundays couple’s golf are as follows: first, Andy Ivey, Valerie Powers and Tom Ryan with a 36; second, via a tie breaker were Candy Kelley, Greg Gayne, and Ricky Bates with 37; and third also at 37 were Brent Kelley, Carroll Blood and Mike Ivey.

Couples golf plays every Sunday at 3 p.m. All are welcome for this 9-hole mixed scramble. Twilight league is on Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. We are still looking for some golfers to play in the women’s league. Call if you are interested.

The Slice Restaurant is now open seven days a week, Monday through Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., and Thursday-Sunday opening at 11 a.m. Come check out the daily specials including an all you can eat boneless wings on Thursday and an all you can eat Friday Fish Fry.
