ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Bob Guerette, president of the Island Falls Lakes Association, declared that the 2019 Fishing Derby held on Saturday June 29 and Sunday, June 30 was a success.

In spite of challenging, wet weather, a hardy group of 75 fishermen registered 70 fish on the day. A total of 28 fish were caught in Mattawamkeag Lake and 42 were snagged from Pleasant Pond. All the fish caught by the derby participants were donated for the fish fry dinner.

In addition to the cash prizes, this year’s raffle was expanded to 18 items. The “Catch of the Day” fish fry dinner and the whoopie pie bar were among the highlights of the evening dinner, Guerette said.
