VaJoWa Golf – Week of July, 31, 2019 – The County

ISLAND Falls, Maine — The beautiful summer weather has made for great golf. This past Saturday was the Island Falls Summerfest 4-person scramble.

Finishing first with a spectacular 12 under par 60 were Becky Kelley, Bev Osborne, Ricky Bates and Warren Walker. Osborne holed out a 30-footer for eagle on the 13th hole and Walker knocked one in the hole from the fairway on 17 for eagle on their way to the back nine of 29.

In second place with a 65 were April Bates, Brent Kelley, Stuart Kelley and Clay Halliday. Finishing in a tie for third with 66 were Pete Lawlor, Bill Boulier, Willie Sleeper and Ben Walker; and Stacy and Ray Hussey, Greg Gayne and Steve Merry.

Closest to the pin winners on No. 4 was Kelley at 25-feet, 3-inches; on No. 7 was Osborn at 7 inches and also on No. 11 at 22-8; Bates was closest on No. 16 at 3-3.

Couples Golf (Pairs and Spares) is still happening Sundays at 3 p.m. It had a 9 hole scramble format and is open to all.

The County Open is being held on Aug. 10 in Houlton with an 18-hole individual tournament, and on Sunday, Aug. 11, a four person scramble at VaJoWa. There are still openings for both, so sign up at either club or online at www.countyopen.com.

Coming up on Aug. 25 is the annual Field Day. It is an 18-hole individual event with gross and net winners. Payout will be paid to twice as many net winners as gross. Sign up in the Golf Shop.

The Slice Restaurant is now open Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to close.
