PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Hooked On Hockey 5K will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle.

A Kids 1 Mile Fun Run will also be offered starting at 8:30 a.m. Registration on event day is at the venue from 7:30-8:45 a.m.

The Hooked On Hockey 5K is a fundraiser for the Presque Isle Youth Hockey Association, whose mission is to provide all the youth of the organization with the best opportunity for individual and team acquisition of hockey skills, knowledge, team play and sportsmanship. As a volunteer organization, they proudly work with over 120 youth ages 3 to 15 years old.

It is known that organized, well-structured youth sports can provide many benefits for children and adolescents. The positive experiences that sports and an active lifestyle bring can play an important role in a young person’s life. Physical exercise is good for the mind, body and spirit, with team sports helping teach adolescents accountability, dedication, leadership and other skills.

A Virtual Participant option is also available online, as is a Donation option, for those who cannot make the event in person. This event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Buck Construction, Carlisle Electric, Huber Engineered Woods, Libby’s Camps, Lucerne Farms, Pineland Farms, and Thompson and Hamel. Those wishing to keep up to date can find the event on Facebook at CompetitorME.

Registration on event day can also be done online, so to avoid lines pre-registration is strongly

encouraged. Registration can be found by visiting www.competitorme.com.
