Using cellphone while driving should mean license loss

To the editor:
This is in regard to the [“Walkabout: Aroostook”] article on driving. I agree it is sad how some people drive today, especially since cellphones came into existence.

I’m glad that finally in Maine, handheld usage will be illegal come September, but I do not think it will stop many people from their senseless habit with the first offense resulting in a $50 fine and the second a $250 fine.
They should lose their license for one month for the first offense and a year for the second offense with a $1,000 fine. That would curtail a lot of people and save many lives, including their own.
