From the Bunkers – Week of September 2, 2019

HOULTON, Maine — Houlton Golf Course is looking great. With the fresh rain we recently received, the fairways have all greened up. Our crew is taking care of business and everything was well manicured for the big tournament last weekend.

The Scramble held on Saturday, Aug. 24, for the Houlton High School was well attended and all participants had a great time. The challenge to beat the team from last year’s state golf champs was successfully completed by the team of Jerry, Jane, and Collin York and Ben Niles at 5 under par. Second place was won by the team of Parker Brewer, Kasey Brewer, Kyle Larabe and Will Delong at 4 under by a tie breaker rule.

The Men’s Twilight League playoffs started Monday, Aug. 26 with the sweet sixteen round.

The annual Babe Caron Memorial Tournament was held over Labor Day weekend. All 30 teams are registered and the field was full. Friday, Aug. 30 featured a practice day, followed by social hours at the clubhouse. Also on Friday was the dedication of the Babe Caron bench behind the sixth green. The golf tournament was played on Saturday and Sunday.

Coming in mid September will be the Ryan Wright/ Elks Memorial Scramble.

The Lakeside Restaurant catered a Houlton High 55th reunion on Sunday, Aug. 25. It was well attended and all had a good time catching up.

Bill and Nancy of the Lakeside Restaurant invite you to come out to the Clubhouse Wednesday through Sunday for a delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere. Call for reservations at 694-9494.

This week I found a patch of fairway that had a dozen or so divots taken out of it in a small area. I will remind you that this is a golf course for play, not a practice facility. Please do your practicing down at the range where it belongs. Thank you.

We will be having great weather this coming week, so this is an excellent time to come out to play and enjoy the view.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662, email houltongolf@gmail.com or visit their website www.houltongolf.com.
