Spud spill on I-95 causes traffic delay

ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Speed and poor road conditions were cited as contributing factors in a tractor trailer crash on Interstate 95 Tuesday, Nov. 12, that resulted in a trailer load of potatoes spilling onto the road.

The tractor trailer was hauling a load of unpackaged potatoes from New Brunswick, when driver Marko Kekovic, 39, of Woodstock, New Brunswick, lost control of the 2018 International tractor trailer near mile marker 278, spilling his load of loose potatoes, said Maine State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller.

The tractor trailer jackknifed into the median on the southbound lane of Interstate 95 around 10:30 a.m., shutting down one lane for most of the day Nov. 12.

Investigating officer Trooper Hunter Cotton said the truck also lost a substantial amount of fuel as a result of the crash.

The Department of Environmental Protection was contacted for the cleanup and the Island Falls Fire Department and the Maine Department of Transportation assisted state police. No charges were filed in the crash.
