Thanksgiving Message from Bishop Robert P. Deeley

PORTLAND, Maine — Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Diocese of Portland issued the following greeting for Thanksgiving 2019.

“Happy Thanksgiving! One of the things we learn from this holiday is that we are strengthened by each other. The very act of giving thanks puts us outside of ourselves and connects us to others,” the bishop said.

“Thanksgiving is a holiday, but it also needs to be an attitude. When we come to realize that we have received, we give thanks, and that leads to a way of living. To be thankful helps us to see the need to share what we have so that others can be grateful. Generosity is built into gratitude when we focus on the need to share what we have with others. Thanksgiving turns us from individuals each protecting our own corner of the world into a community, and we can be grateful for all those whom God brings into our lives.

“May you have a blessed day with family and friends.”
