HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton woman was arrested after she allegedly fell asleep in a tanning bed while impaired by drugs.

The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca said.

Police were called to Lisa’s Hair Design, a beauty salon, after staff couldn’t awaken a woman using the salon tanning bed. Several attempts by staff to do so were unsuccessful.

Police arrived with the Houlton Ambulance Department, out of fear that the woman was suffering a medical emergency, he said.

Since the woman was in a locked room, the door knob was removed to gain entry to it.

Emergency personnel then were able to awaken and evaluate the woman, who he identified as Ashley M. Belyea, 32, of Houlton.

Police allegedly found a variety of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Belyea was charged with felony unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, along with five felony and misdemeanor counts of possession of scheduled drugs. He said that the drugs were identified as heroin, methamphetamine, Suboxone, Methylin and alprazolam.
