A.R. Gould welcomes first Aroostook County babies born on New Year’s Day

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In the early hours of New Year’s Day 2020, Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital said hello to the first two babies born in Aroostook County this year.

A.R. Gould confirmed on Thursday that the first County baby was born just 11 minutes after Maine’s first New Year baby came into the world at Maine Medical Center in Portland. At this time, hospital spokeswoman Karen Gonya has said that details about the first County baby and family are not yet available.

At 1:33 a.m. parents Sydney Kinney and Brandon Farley of Washburn welcomed their son, Benson Steven Rodney Farley, who weighed in at six pounds, 14 ounces and 20.5 inches long. Benson became the second baby born in Aroostook County for 2020.

The baby boy’s birthday now falls two days before his mother’s birthday, which is Jan. 3, and two days after his father’s birthday, which was Dec. 30. Brandon Farley said that Kinney went into labor on Dec. 30, so they had hoped that perhaps he and Benson would end up sharing a birthday.

“We’re just happy that he’s finally here and that he’s healthy,” Brandon Farley said.

Benson was delivered by Janna Sirois of A.R. Gould’s OB/GYN department while nurses Emily Gardner, Marissa Chasse and Amy Jackson of the hospital’s women and children’s unit helped care for Kinney and Benson.

Benson is Kinney’s first child and the second for Brandon Farley.
