Poor road conditions lead to head-on collision

CARIBOU, Maine — Rough winter roads contributed to a Jan. 5 head-on collision on the Woodland Center Road, during which two vehicles received extensive damage.

Caribou Police received a call concerning the crash at 10:25 a.m., and officers Eric Depner and Aaron Marquis determined that the accident occurred when Bernard Skidgel, 25, of Woodland lost control of his 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck while traveling west on the Woodland Center Road.

His truck crossed the center line and struck a 2014 Kia Soul, operated by Christine Browning, 50, of Woodland. Browning had a juvenile passenger in the vehicle, and both were taken to Cary Medical Center with minor injuries.

Skidgel was treated at the scene of the crash and subsequently issued two traffic citations.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to extensive front end damage.

Police remind drivers to slow down and plan extra travel time when there are poor road conditions, and to stay alert to changing conditions.
