United Way calls for Northern Star talent

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — United Way of Aroostook will soon start looking for its next “Northern Star… the End As We Know It.”

For 16 years now the UWA has highlighted talent from across Aroostook County.  This year UWA once again seeks talent of all ages, styles and sizes to compete in this year’s three regional shows in Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Houlton.

Individuals and groups under the age of 12 will compete in the Junior Division.  All others will compete in the Regular Division.

Jason Parent, executive director of the Aroostook County Action Program, will be back to host along with some blasts from the past as his co-host and judges.  The events will include special performances by past Aroostook Idol and Northern Star winners.

Audiences will still select two individuals or groups from each region to advance to the finale, along with one act chosen by the judges.  Audience members will select the one individual or group from the junior division to move on to the finale.

Regional shows will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Fox Auditorium in Fort Kent; at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Presque Isle Middle School auditorium; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the Community Arts Center in Houlton.

The finale will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, at the Caribou Performing Arts Center.

People interested in participating in this year’s shows should contact the United Way office at 207-764-5197 or visitwww.unitedwayaroostook.org/nothern-star for more information or an application.

Tickets for all shows will be available soon at all Acadia Federal Credit Union and The County Federal Credit Union branches throughout The County at $10 for regional shows, and at $15 for adults and $10 for children for the finale.
