CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou police are actively investigating a Feb. 18 incident in which a man was caught on camera vandalizing and stealing roughly $1,500 worth of quarters from Custom Car Wash.

While police are not able to comment on the specific method of investigation, they said on Feb. 24 that they are working on the case from multiple angles.

Laura Adams, administrative assistant for the Caribou Police Department, said that local banks and businesses have been notified to look for anyone with a copious amount of quarters and any other suspicious activities.

Custom Car Wash owner John Morrill is working with the police to find the person responsible, and also offering a $500 cash reward to anyone with information that could lead police to finding the person.

The footage shows a man wearing heavy camouflage ripping out all four vaults and timers from the self-serve bays using crowbars at 3 a.m..

Morrill has since distributed a screenshot from the camera footage online to help the public identify the man responsible. The incident closed each of the self-serve bays for about a week as he had to replace the four timers. The automatic drive-through was not affected.

Police are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity that could be related to this incident call the department at 207-493-3301.
