County seniors come together for one final hoop game

CARIBOU, Maine — High school seniors were able to enjoy one last time on the basketball court Wednesday as the Aroostook League Senior All-Star Game came to Caribou High School.

 

More than a dozen schools were represented in the all-star game. The girls game began at 5:30, and featured teams consisting of blue and yellow colors. The blue team had a close victory of 72-63 against the yellow team. 

For the blue team, Breann Bradbury of Central Aroostook scored 15 points, while Teagan Ewings of Houlton and Paige Espling of Caribou each scored 12. Top scorers on the yellow team were Maggie Castonguay of Presque Isle, who scored 15 points. Makelyn Porter of Southern Aroostook scored 14 points for the yellow team, while Alana Lagassie of Presque Isle scored 11 during the game.

The boys game commenced at 7 p.m. and pitted blue teams against white. The white team ultimately came out with a close victory of 107-102.

Chris Plissey of Woodland scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the second half and connected on eight 3-pointers overall. Caribou’s Parker Deprey scored 24 points for Team White, including a long 3-pointer from near half-court at the buzzer to seal the victory for his squad. Fellow Vikings Alex Bouchard and Jake Berkoski adding 15 and 14, respectively.

Top scorers on team blue were Brayden Bradbury of Central Aroostook, who scored 21 points, additionally Caleb Wheaton of Presque Isle scored 20 and Keegan Gentle of Houlton scored 19.

“[We had a] huge crowd, with a great halftime show by the Maine Dance Academy,” said Bob White of the Aroostook League. “The girls game was close and the boys game was exciting with dunks and alley-oop passes, as well as many 3 pointers.”

Proceeds from the game benefit the Aroostook League Scholarship Fund. Last year, the Aroostook League presented $4,000 in scholarships to graduating student-athletes.
